16 Baptized at Avegame

“I have decided to follow Jesus, no turning back! Though none go with me, still I will follow. No turning back!”

Today was a day of celebration. 16 people were coming forward to get baptized. There was clapping. There was dancing. There was rejoicing as the men and women formed a line to the baptistery. The church’s walls were bursting with song as the Togolese sang in their native tongue. Although I don’t know the language, I recognized the tune. It was to the song, “I have decided to follow Jesus” My heart felt great joy worshipping with the Togolese to the familiar tune.

After each person was baptized, there was lots of cheering and celebrating of the new believer in Christ. After the last person was baptized the pastor asked everyone to come near. “What was done here today is great. However, it is not the water that saves you. No, only Christ can save you from your sins. What these 16 did today was announce to the world that they have chosen to follow Jesus.”
